Potter Class: This week’s learning

Weekly Learning 02.03.20

  • It is Book Week this week so we will be using our theme of ‘magic’ to inspire all of our learning which is going to be very exciting for all of us!
  • Children can come on Friday dressed as their chosen character. We are looking forward to seeing all the outfits.
  • You are all welcome on Friday 14:30 – 15:00 to come and see all the things we have been getting up to over Book Week.

 

 

This Weeks Learning:

Little Potters:

This term we are introducing the Set 2 sounds (The long vowel sounds):

We will then progress to learning their Set 2 sounds.

There are 12 Set 2 ‘speed sounds’ that are made up of two or three letters

which represent just one sound, e.g. ay as in play, ee as in tree and igh as in

high.

It is important that your son/daughter does not pronounce these as 2 or 3

separate sounds.

When your son/daughter sees the ‘speed sound’ letters together in a word,

s/he must say just one sound for these letters.

These are called ‘special friends’.

When your son/daughter learns their Set 2 sounds in school they will learn:

 the letters that represent a speed sound e.g. ay

 a simple picture prompt linked to the ‘speed sound’ and a short phrase to say

e.g. may I play

Every speed sound has a list of green words linked to it, so your son/daughter

can ‘sound out’ (this is FRED-talk) and ‘sound blend’’ words containing the new

speed sound they have just learnt, for example s-p-r-ay  spray.

Below are the Set 2 sounds and the phrase they learn to associate it with:

ay: may I play

ee: what can you see

igh: fly high

ow: blow the snow

oo: poo at the zoo

ar: start the car

or: shut the door

air: that’s not fair

ir: whirl and twirl

ou: shout it out

oy: toy for a boy

We will introduce a couple of sounds per week this term.

 

Both LP and BP:

 

 

In English we will be using ‘Bear’s magic pencil’ by Anthony Browne and friends to take us on a magical journey into telling a story about a bear and his magical pencil. We will be making our own story books which we would love to show you on Friday!

 

In Maths we are going to be ‘magically’ doubling amounts.

 

In Science we will be finding and identifying common plants in the wild. We will be gathering information and answering questions about the plants.

 

In PE we will be exploring team games and aiming skills.

 

In Computing we are going to assess how to use yes/no questions in order to separate different information. (BP)

 

In PSHE we will be practising some mindfulness. We will be using our magic to create some magical paintbrushes and magical pictures.

 

In Music the children will be introduced to Baroque style of music.

 

We will spend the rest of the afternoons enjoying all of the Book Week activities that are planned for the school. The children will have lots of opportunities to celebrate a love for reading books of all kinds.
